Accreditation Process:
MÜDEK is the agency for engineering accreditation in Turkey. In terms of its history, from 1993-2006 45 engineering programs from 5 Turkish universities obtained "substantial equivalency" evaluations from ABET. In 2001, the Engineering Deans Council (MDK) was established, including deans of engineering faculties in state and private universities in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. A task force was formed on the evaluation of engineering education, and in 2002, MDK decided to establish a National Accreditation System for Engineering Education for Turkey. In May 2002, the Engineering Evaluation Board (MÜDEK) was formed by MDK to establish a national system for the accreditation of engineering programs.
The mission of MÜDEK is to "promote and enhance the engineering education by the accreditation of engineering programs, resulting in better educated and qualified engineers in order to advance the welfare of the society." The main objectives are to "promote and enhance the engineering education by the accreditation of engineering programs, resulting in better educated and qualified engineers in order to advance the welfare of the society."
