Accreditation Process:
ICACIT, Instituto de Calidad y Acreditación de Carreras Profesionales de Ingeniería y Tecnología, is a nonprofit organization. The Board of Trustees is comprised by CONFIEP (The Confederation of Private Production Enterprises of Peru), representing the employers; CIP, The College of Engineers that gathers of the Engineering Professionals; API, The Peruvian Engineering Academy; IEEE Peru Section and APESOFT. It was founded in 2003, although preliminary activities started in 2000.

IEEE World has been ICACIT’s mentor and encouraged a Cooperation Agreement with ABET that allows ICACIT to use ABET Criteria, as well as ABET methodology and evaluation procedures.

The evaluation cycle starts in January every year with the reception of program evaluation requests. Between the months of October and November, the Equipos AdHoc de Evaluación (AdHoc Evaluation Teams) EAEVs conducts an on-campus visit in the institution to review the material course and data used in the program improvement decision making process. They also conduct interviews with faculty, students, and administrators, based on the previous analysis of the Self-Study Report written by the program. At the end of the visit, the EAEV delivers a preliminary report of the visit findings to the institution, giving it the chance to answer to this report if factual errors have been found.

It is the responsibility of the Comités Técnicos de Especialistas (Technical Specialists Committees) CTEs and the Comités Técnicos de Acreditación (Technical Accreditation Committees) CTAs of ICACIT to determine the final accreditation action, based-on the EAEV’s recommended actions and to communicate this decision to the institution.

The National System for Evaluation, Accreditation and Certification in Educational Quality
The Peruvian Congress approved a Law in May 2006 that created the Accreditation and Certification System called SINEACE with 3 Operating Bodies:

(1) IPEBA for the Primary and Secondary School
(2) CONEACES for the Technical Education and
(3) CONEAU for the University Education.

The Accreditation is temporal. It is mandatory for the Medicine and Education careers. The Operating Bodies do not evaluate. They rely on appropriate evaluators. ICACIT feels that qualifies to become a CONEAU Evaluator.
ICACIT intends to show an excellent performance to be recognized by the Washington Accord.
