Search for Accredited Programs

Accreditation Process:
Full details are at www.engineersaustralia.org.au/about-us/program-accreditation. But, in summary, accreditation of engineering education programs is normally carried out every five years. Implementing Engineers Australia's accreditation
policy is the responsibility of the Accreditation Board, which subsequently publishes listings of individual accredited programs. Current listings of accredited professional engineering and engineering technology programs are available at
two levels:

  • Programs at the level of Professional Engineers
  • Programs at the level of Engineering Technologists

Following a major review of engineering education in Australia in 1996, Engineers Australia revised its accreditation procedures in 1997 and again in 1999. The ‘Manual for the Accreditation of Professional Engineering Programs' was published by the Institution of Engineers in 1999 and outlined the policy, criteria and requirements for accreditation. This definitive document was re-developed in 2004 as a modular system of controlled documents, and grouped together as the Engineers Australia Accreditation Management System abbreviated as the AMS.

The AMS series of documents (in PDF format) is available for download.

Information and Communications Technology Accreditation Process:
The Australian Computer Society has mission to advance professional excellence in information and communication technology, and provide accreditation for "information and communications technology." For the purpose of these Guidelines, the term "information and communications technology" means: "Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Systems Engineering,
Software Engineering, including directly related subjects and technologies, and their use in analysis, design, construction and application of computer an ccommunications based systems."

Accreditation provides:

  • A partnership between universities and the Society in establishing a professional basis for the ICT industry.
  • A process whereby university courses are evaluated as meeting the requirements of an independent professional body, hence contributing towards the University's Performance Portfolio.
  • A statement to governments and employers of the basic educational requirements of professional ICT practitioners and the resources necessary to meeting those requirements.
  • A basis of national and international benchmarking of ICT professional education and reciprocal recognition in other countries.
